Question: Is this program fully taught in English?

The Master program is fully taught in English except for the two required-elective General Studies modules (such as languages, humanities, sociology etc.) which are mainly taught in German. However some of them are also available in English.

Question: Are there any tuition fees to study this program?

There are no tuition fees, you have to pay an administration fee of about 300-350 € per semester only.

Question: What is the duration of studies?

The regular duration of studies is three semesters, i.e. 1.5 years. This includes two semesters of lectures and labs and one semester for the Master's thesis. If you do not study full-time, e.g. because of a part-time job, the duration will be longer of course. Also, if you have to do additional modules (see application and admission), the duration will be longer of course, as well.

Question: If I graduated from a University where the program was in English, do I still need a prove of my English proficiency level?

If you have a proof from your University that this program was taught in English, another certificate is not required. Please provide a corresponding letter from your University to our study admin.

Question: My bachelor is not in the field of Electrical Engineering, Commmuncations Engineering,  Computer Engineering, or the like. Am I yet eligible to apply for your master's program?

Formally, there are no requirements for the Master Information and Communications as regards the technical subjects of the Bachelor program that you apply with. However, in order to be able to follow the required modules you should have some knowledge (or at least a major interest to catch up your knowledge) on all the required fields that are covered by this major: Digital Signal Processing, Digital Signal Transmission, and  Network Engineering. Along with these courses, there are two required modules on Software Engineering and Stochastics which you have to pass. The remaining courses can be elected according to your preferences.

Question: Is it possible to do a pre-check of my application documents?

This is not possible in the University. For our international students, the documents will be checked by UNIASSIST e.V., see application and admission. In any case, there is no other requirement for admission other than a first Bachelor degree with at least 180 credits (acc. to the European credit point system) which usually corresponds to 3.5 - 4 years of studying overseas, and a certificate of your English language skills.

Question: Is there a minimum grade point average (GPA) for admission?

No, there is no minimum GPA for admission? However, as of Winter 2019 there will be a limitation of places in the program, therefore, there will be a selection process according to the University's regulations for admission and enrollment (OZI) which mainly takes into account the GPA.

Question: Is there any admission restriction, e.g. restricted number of places, or will all those students who fulfill the entrance requirements be admitted?

There is a limitation on the number of places due to the massive interest in this program.

Question: Is a master's degree beneficial for my application, e.g. if its GPA is better than my bachelor's GPA, can be considered? 

No, your Master degree will not be of any relevance. The decisive GPA is the one of your qualifying Bachelor's degree.

Question: Is any work experience, letter of recommendation or a motivation letter beneficial for my application?

Work experience may be considered in the admission process, please submit all relevant documents (qualfied job certificates) to UNIASSST e.V. who will check the documents. Currently, other information will not be considered in the admission process.

Question: When and how can I apply for this program?

You can apply between April 15 and June 15 for each winter term. Please find all the information regarding application and admission here. Please note that international students have to apply via UNIASSIST e.V. Since UNIASSIST e.V. requires about three weeks for checking the documents, it is urgently recommended to apply as soon as possbile, at least in May, to not delay the application process!

Question: I applied once for this program via UNIASSIST but was not admitted or could not accept the admission. Do I have to apply again?

Unfortunately, a new application via UNIASSIST is required every year, as the documents are not stored in the University.

Question: When and how do I receive notification about my admission?

You should receive notification about your admission typically in the first half of July by email.

Question: How is the process after having been admitted?

You will be informed about this process in a letter received with your admission. This letter will set out what you have to do.

Question: Is it possible to defer admission after having been accepted in the program?

Such deferral is not possible. If you accept the place and get enrolled in the program you are expected to start your studies "without undue delay". If you cannot start your studies, e.g. for Visa delays, please contact the program supervisor.
